Project 3: Dialogue

Project 3: Dialogue

Due 11/27

Create a short animated acting sequence to a 5-10 second clip of dialogue.  You may use a character that you have previously animated with, but it is not required.

     Requirements:
             - The dialogue must have words.  Simple sound effects, warbles or Sim-speech won't do for this.  I will be looking for both the ability to lip sync, and also use the body to emphasize the words.
             - The character doesn't have to have a standard mouth (though it's recommended).  But the character should have something that indicates a mouth (even if it's not a normal human mouth)
             - It should be clear that it's the character speaking and not anyone off screen.
             - It can be a bust shot or a whole body shot, but the entire character has to be involved with expressing their thoughts and emotions.  It should not be just a talking head.

     Recommendations:
             - Dialogue should be clear and easy to understand - not distorted or warbled, or too quiet.
             - The animation doesn't have to be a complete idea, but it shouldn't start or end in the middle of a sentence.
             - You are absolutely allowed to add an introduction before the dialogue, or something afterwards.  Just be careful not to overwhelm yourself with the workload.  If you're not sure, try animating the dialogue first, then adding the bells and whistles if you have time.  Ultimately, it's quality over quantity.  The 10-second limit is just a recommendation to keep the workload from being too overwhelming.

     Rubric:
This is what I'm going to be thinking about while grading:
          1) Animation:Are the 12 Principles of Animation applied as needed?  Is it snappy, swimmy?  Do the motions emphasize the dialogue?  Is it obvious that the character on screen is the speaker?
          2) Technical:  Can you get the full expressiveness out of your character through your technique, or are you limited by it?  Are the volumes kept consistent?  Is the character on model?  Are there any artifacts or do any of the layers jump/disappear or are over-extended?

          3) Acting:  Suspension of disbelief.  Does your character show emotion?  Character?  Do we get an idea of his or her motives or thought process?  Does the character feel alive?
